The Firetext battery powered smoke alarm sends a warning text message to the numbers stored on a SIM card in the unit when an alarm is activated.
This new concept was developed by Matthew Newman of ELS Ltd who was concerned about a house he was renovating and wanted to be alerted to any fires when he was not there. And so Firetext was created: a revolutionary smoke detector with integrated GSM module so when the smoke detector is activated it sends a warning text to a maximum of 4 mobile numbers.
This device has been designed so that it can be retro-fitted into a dwelling or used as a stand-alone device in area where mains power is not possible (caravans, boats etc). Once fitted, the alarm will allow 36 continuous activations so if the device is tested weekly; a new battery will be required every 6 months. When the smoke alarm is fitted, it is important to test the signal strength and coverage of the device.
